As an advanced reflexologist, I am never surprised when my clients report the many benefits they have felt following their treatments; everything from relief from constipation to diminished sciatica pain. Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the principle that all the body's systems are mapped in reflex points on the feet, hands and ears. Stimulation of the approximately 7,500 nerve endings in the feet helps to open up the natural pathways your body uses to nourish and heal itself. Tender or ‘gritty’ points indicate congestion in the corresponding area of the body. Although it has become much more popular and accepted in Western society in recent years, Reflexology is thought to have been practised for thousands of years by Egyptians, Chinese, Native American cultures, and the Mayan and Incan civilisations. Evidence in inscriptions has even been found in a physician’s tomb in Egypt.
